About the artificial slalom course

The artificial slalom course Veltrusy is built in the former spillway of the Vltava weir Miřejovice (river kilometre 18.0). The reconstruction started in 1983 and was completed within a few years. Since then, minor changes have been regularly made and the surrounding facilities have been built.

The length of the spillway is 600m, of which 350m is used for the actual slalom course. The elevation is 3.5m. The depth varies from 0.5m to 1.5m. The flow varies between 9 and 12 m3/s depending on the water level and the operation of the hydroelectric power plant located on the other bank of the Vltava. The barriers are wooden or plastic gates in steel frames (wrapped with rubber belt or special carpet in dangerous places), similarly secured steel or stone pipes and tyres poured with concrete.

The slalom course's facilities and sanitary equipment are located in a boathouse built in 1997-1998. Unless otherwise agreed in advance in exceptional cases, water is released at times specified in an addendum to the operating rules and agreed with the weir operator. We try to publish the schedule in the Reservations section.
